Hackmanite
A variety of Sodalite
What is Hackmanite?
Hackmanite is a sodalite variety first discovered in Greenland but now mined in several localities around the world. The material is pale to deep purple when first mined, but it fades upon exposure to sunlight. This change can occur in seconds, but the original color can be obtained again when the material is placed into a dark place. Hackmanite is used as a collector's gem, usually cut into slices or slabs or faceted into ovals.
Uses & Applications
Hackmanite is an interesting mineral whose major commercial appeal is that it is fluorescent under ultraviolet light. It is prized and sought after by mineral collectors for this unusual characteristic. Good examples of this hard stone can also be cut into faceted gems for use as unusual jewelry items.
Healing Properties
It is said that the function of hackmanite is to adjust the crown, throat, and third eye chakras, cleansing the body and removing any blockages between these. It's said to be grounding, strengthening the relationship between the possessor and the environment around them. If you have sleep problems or disorders of the throat, hackmanite is believed to mitigate those effects.
