Iridescent Aragonite
Aragonite
What is Iridescent Aragonite?
Iridescent Aragonite is a variety of the mineral aragonite that exhibits a play of color, similar to that seen in opals or mother-of-pearl. This iridescence is caused by the interference of light within thin layers or films of impurities or structural variations within the aragonite crystal structure. The effect can produce a shimmering, rainbow-like display of colors across the surface of the stone. The stone is often found in botryoidal (grape-like) formations or as stalactitic growths.
