Phlogopite

A variety of Biotite

What is Phlogopite?

Phlogopite is incredibly brittle, yet it develops in impressively large mica sheets. These large sheets are so fragile that when they come into contact with anything, including water, they will crumble. This delicate nature makes it is a perfect mineral for use as insulation in electronic devices. Although you may not know it, your car's spark plugs very likely contain phlogopite!

Uses & Applications

Phlogopite is one of two mica materials used industrially. Although it is used less commonly than muscovite due to its comparative rarity, it still has a variety of applications. Phlogopite is added to plastic car parts to increase stiffness. It is also used to insulate different electrical products, make spark plugs, and as a substitute for asbestos.

Healing Properties

Phlogopite works on the Third Eye and Crown chakras to provide clarity of vision and encourage innovative ideas. It allows its user to cut through insignificant details and provides a clearer picture of every issue, so it can be quite beneficial in the office. It enhances visions of the Third Eye chakra and brings better understanding between the physical and spiritual worlds.

Key Characteristics

Formation of Phlogopite

Phlogopite is an important and relatively common end-member composition of biotite. Phlogopite micas are found primarily in igneous rocks, although it is also common in contact metamorphic aureoles of intrusive igneous rocks with magnesian country rocks and in marble formed from impure dolomite (dolomite with some siliclastic sediment).
