Seraphinite
A variety of Clinochlore
What is Seraphinite?
Seraphinite has a deep green background with silver or white patterns formed from mica that are reminiscent of feathers. It gets its name from the Greek word seraphim which translates to "winged heavenly being". The stone has below average hardness, making it more of a collector’s specimen than a jewelry stone. The main deposits of seraphinite are found in Russia.
Uses & Applications
Seraphinite has limited uses for jewelry or decorative object carving, since it is not very hard. However, it remains a popular jewelry stone in protected settings such as necklaces because of its beauty, particularly specimens which display its uniquely attractive feather-like patterns.
